Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between Charter and a membership?
Charter is a single day trip with no ongoing commitment — ideal if you want to try boating or only go out occasionally. On Demand and Unlimited are Club memberships: you're onboarded once, gain app-based booking access, and boat repeatedly without repeating check-in each time.
Can I upgrade my membership later?
Yes. You can upgrade to a higher Boat Category, or switch from On Demand to Unlimited, at any time during your contract period in your home harbour. Your original contract dates stay the same, and any amount already paid is credited toward the upgrade.
Do I need boating experience?
No previous experience is required. Onboarding is mandatory for all members and includes e-learning plus a practical session on board, tailored to your experience level. A skipper is available, and required for some larger boats or if your experience is limited.
What does "engine hours included" mean for Unlimited members?
Unlimited memberships include the first 50 engine hours. Beyond that, a usage fee applies depending on the boat model — this reflects engine depreciation and maintenance, and your local Club can confirm exact figures.
Can I use my membership outside Malta?
Yes. Both On Demand and Unlimited members have access to Agapi Boat Club's international network of harbours, with the fee per trip varying by boat model, season and location.
How does the RMYC discount work?
Royal Malta Yacht Club members receive an 8% discount on On Demand and Unlimited membership fees, excluding third-party fees, subject to valid RMYC membership (this discount does not apply to Charter). How is Smart Boat Ownership different from a membership?
With Smart Boat Ownership, you purchase and own a boat outright rather than paying a membership fee. Your boat can then earn income within the Agapi Club fleet when you're not using it, offsetting your ownership costs — a fundamentally different arrangement to Charter, On Demand or Unlimited.
